Bittersweet Books (and maybe some reading for teens)

On occasion I’ve had readers tell me that they have had to put Feeding Eden down to cry. They, more or less, described “…a feeling of all those memories rushing back so vividly.” And I always feel this way in response: I never meant to make anyone cry. I wanted to help other food allergy […]

FAAN Walk For Food Allergy in Westchester NY

“My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. She’s ninety-seven now, and we don’t know where the heck she is.”  – Ellen DeGeneres Okay that quote has nothing to do with food allergies but I LOVE Ellen DeGeneres’ humor (as does my son Eden) and really, if you think about it  – it’s […]

Words Matter

I get excited about words. And I love it when other people have that “just right” way of saying things. I think kids can learn to love words when parents play around with new or unusual vocabulary. I do that a lot. I also have a subscription to A.Word.A.Day, described as “a community of more […]

Gluten-Free Bread

This is my gluten-free bread – the recipe is available here: This also includes a short essay about transforming my love of bread baking when I started eating gluten-free. I always loved to bake bread, and this is the standby recipe/formula that I now use. It tastes a little different every week because I always change up the flours – the trick […]

Stuffed Bell Peppers

These are stuffed bell peppers made without dairy, eggs, or nuts. You can even make them vegan. We love these in our family because you can add a variety of veggies, beans, rice, and/or meats, and they taste great baked inside a giant bellpepper. These are easy to accomodate any allergy since you can put whatever you want in them.

Vegan Brownie Sunday

This is the Chocolate So Delicious icecream, topped with Divvies chocolate chips, strawberries, crushed frozen Divvies brownies, home made vegan chocolate sauce and vegan “whipped cream” made of coconut milk.
