We’re Not THAT Dumb Are We?

The U.S. government has a long history grappling with the food labeling issue and we are still at it. As an allergy parent, I'm grateful for the recently instituted Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) and yet, it seems labels can be as confusing as they are helpful. Certainly FALCPA needs tweaking but...

Recently, a food industry group voluntarily halted one facet of its program in "nutrition labeling" after federal regulators pointed out that it might be deceiving. What was the issue? The words "Smart Choice" were being stamped on high sugar cereals.

If I got one vote, the only "smart choice" would be to tell consumers EXACTLY what was in our food and let us choose. Thanks anyway.
